nothing has changed

nothing has changed
You are here again
and not drinking
just staring as if
to see deeper
into these eyes
nothing has changed
since last you were here
no Road to Damascus moment
no one has passed a comment
written a book
sung a song
to give you
a sudden revelation
life is still built
one moment at a time
one crime at a time
one lie at a time
one moment rolling
into the next moment
on a scaffolding of moments
you might think you look older
your skin more lined
or the health kick has made
you more taut and pristine
but inside you are the same
and always will be
carrying your name
seeking answers in me
looking in so deeply
for some hidden depth
and yet the answers
you seek me to have
for the questions you hold
looking for the bottom
of knowledge and life
of the soul striving
from the gaze reflected
for the answers I hold
are the ones you already know
staring into a mirror
just shows you more
of the less you are.
