Valid points, one doesnt legitimize themselves by belittling another - however, you have to understand what its like for a woman in the wider world, the body image most depicted is not reflective of the population. For example look at all the exposure on Jessica Simpson as her weight fluctuated. Why are all diet ads centered towards women. Dove products have geared their advertisements towards "larger" women and its a huge deal. You should also consider its the use of the term for a woman to take back body self image, to reclaim that she is not abnormal, not fat, but a "real" woman and that's probably not much different then the term BBW - it doesnt mean that only big women are beautiful, but that big can be beautiful too. Or not Ken or Barbie..this term also implies differentiation from some high ideal. In the end the reality is that those using these terms probably feel they half to, if for no reason than to weed out those whom put a priority on the physicality.

Well said, MrYBM, and it DID need mentioning. To me, a woman who calls herself a "real woman" is simply arrogant, which is a real turn-off. A real woman doesn't look down at other women who are not like her... she would admire another woman's attributes, and highlight her own. I actually admire and respect women who can look at other women and say "she is so pretty" or "she looks so good in that outfit", and simply say that she is very happy with her own appearance, and also feels sexy. Women do not need to compete with one another. There are contests for just that purpose.
